| About Boy Scout Camp Sunnen
In 1953, Camp Sunnen began operating on land owned by the Sunnen family located on Lake Sunnen west of Potosi, Missouri in the Mark Twain National Forest. The "patrol method" of camping was adopted in 1955 and a capital development plan was initiated for the camp. In 1973, through the generous gift of the Sunnen family, 370 acres of land formerly used as Camp Sunnen was deeded to the Boy Scouts.
Today, Camp Sunnen is 340 acres. Fresh drinking water is provided by a year-around spring. The lake and aquatics area offer extensive swimming, boating and snorkeling opportunities. In addition, Camp Sunnen offers a full range of merit badge opportunities in scoutcraft, field sports (rifle, archery and skeet ranges), handicraft, and nature as well as programs in caving, climbing, and other exciting outdoor adventures.
Located 80 miles south of St. Louis, Camp Sunnen is unique because of the closeness to clear bottom Missouri streams and the Mark Twain National Forest. Camp Sunnen's location provides an environment for hiking, camping and canoeing in the true wilderness of Missouri. Almost every Scout that attends Camp Sunnen has to make a trip to the Mud Cave to experience its climate and atmosphere.
Camp Sunnen offers a full range of field sports, scoutcraft, handicraft, waterfront activities, as well as horse back riding and the golf merit badge. The popular High Adventure of 50 Miles Afoot Afloat is offered to older Scouts seeking real high adventure in a wilderness setting. Enrollment is limited, so sign-up early.
At Camp Sunnen, one of our country's most serene and rustic scouting experiences awaits you in the Missouri Ozarks.
