Butterscotch Chicken - Post By: Mark Buchanan

When I started on staff they had CIT week along with Staff Orientation. A full week. If I believe this occurred during the 1992 staff year to one unfortunate staff patrol.
As usual, the staff was divided into patrols in the beginning of the week and was practicing the "Patrol Method" for meals. The staff had to cook their own food and get familiar with the recipes so that they could assist the patrols they were assigned to.
The staff was cooking away as normal. All the patrols were having their own fun grasping this baked chicken recipe. Nothing unusual, just a baked chicken in a dutch oven over the fire for a while.
Well, this patrol continued on with making the rest of their meal. However, when they got to the butterscotch pudding recipe there was a slight bit of concern. The only ingredient left was flour. Quickly they looked in their dutch oven, or they attempted to. The lid was pretty well モstuckヤ on the dutch oven. Eventually they got the lid off and found that their baked chicken had now become butterscotch chicken, the dutch oven was ruined and they had essentially bronzed the chicken with butterscotch ヨ making it a virtually inedible item.
The patrol lead went to the program director and asked for a second chicken so they could try again. The program director said they'd only ordered the correct number and you'll have to find some way to salvage the chicken. After some nibbling on the chicken, most staff members pleaded with the other patrols to let them have a little bit more to eat and most everyone got a little something.
Ahh, yes, I will almost bet that no other camp staff patrol paid that much attention to the ingredients and recpies as those that had to bare the unfortunate Butterscotch Chicken recipe!
